Soundproofing Wall Systems and Installation:
Taking a wall build up down to its simplest form is thinking of building a framed wall against the given wall space. Creating a structure that adheres to Part E Building Regulations will depend on requirements and restrictions in place. The below system build up is set to two types of walls, Timber and Masonry.
For Timber walls:
• A framing network has to be lined with Isolation strips facing all adjacent walls, floor and ceiling.
• The insulation will consist of an Acoustic Mineral Wool between the joist of the frame.
• Then a Clip and channel system will be applied between 600mm and horizontally 1200mm.
• An Acoustic Plasterboard is then applied to the clip and channel system ensuring a gap of 2 to 5 mm around the perimeter. Ensure the panels are applied in staggered joints. Seal joints with a high Tack Tape.
• Seal the perimeter with an Acoustic Sealant appropriate to the project.
• Apply a self-adhesive acoustic membrane to the plasterboard ensuring the joints are staggered between the layers.
• A second layer of Acoustic Plasterboard is then applied ensuring the screws are imbedded into the channel systems, again, leaving a 2 to 5 mm gap around the perimeter. Ensure the panels are applied in staggered joints. Seal joints with a high Tack Tape.
• Seal the perimeter with an Acoustic Sealant appropriate to the project.
• Finish with a plaster skim or paint.
*All clip and channel system applications depend on project measurements and weights.
